all the crank case breathers around here are clamp on. Is there any way tomake them fit on the 3.1 valve cover. Planning a warm air inatke.
Yes take some pcv plastic valve piping, figure what size you need, cut it to length then clamp the air breather onto 1 end,on the other end push it into the valve cover and seal it with high heat silicone. Here is a pic of mine

P.s-you might have to click on the image then zoom in to see what im talking about.

hey, wouldnt the intake you have described make the cowl induction pointless, i dont see how it gets more air like that?

the stock cowl induction is really, restrictive. so yeah, definately a lot more air, a lot more filter surface for one, and a lot more air movement under the hood, than in the underside of the hood/cowl region.

sorry i don't understand the hood is made of fiberglass. wouldn't it be the coldest anyway? especialy putting the filter in front of the rad? i read the how-to's. i believe, cooler denser air is better= more oxygen. i understand the filter surface area is correct. so what about opening the hood (custom hood scoop?), or dual ducting going into a larger filter at the hood air intake? my idea's for a cold intake and .02 worth

i may be wrong, but someone else may jump in and correct me, but i believe it was dave, whitelighting2, that had chopped his hood up, to open up the ducting, and make it more usable. the *opening* for the cowls, is on the underside of the hood, and cant breathe all that well. in the air filter housing, there is a hole in the bottom, cover that hole up and see how well the car runs not very well, fighting for air. if u opened up the hood, and cut out the actual cowls, and fiberglassed off the lower ducting, and did some work in there, it could flow a lot better, but IMO, a cold air, or even a warm air intake, is better way to go, the difference isnt the temp or the air, its the flow, and there is a lot more from a cai or wai.

o.k i understand a bit it's more about the turbulance of the air than actual surface area but the bigger the surface area with turbulance is better, than just surface area. if that makes sence the way i said it?

okay i get it taht there will be more air to flow into a cai or an wai, BUTTTTT, as i understand...at the bottom of the windshield...in every car, there is a low pressure area, which is why the engineers built a cowl induction coming in from the back, so the low pressurized air could flow into the intake

its was more for that *sports car look* than it was functionality. do a search, 5000 people who have done a cai or wai cant be wrong. trust me on this one. it would FLOW 10000 times better, if you opened up the hood, and made the actual *flow chambers* bigger. they are WAYYY to small. it dont matter how much air you have if your trying to squeeze it through too narrow of a passage way.
low pressure or high pressure air doesnt matter if its not getting enough

its like breathing with your mouth open, then breathing thru a straw.

air flow thru a stock z hood, is like a fat chick in spandex. only so much can fit.

didn't these cars originally have a "silencer" that sat ontop of the air filter and had a little 1 1/2 hole in them for the car to get all its air through??

It sure seems like i remember seeing them back in the 90's, we probably all through them away yrs ago. Anyone else remember these?
