- Cone Filter (any with 3” inlet diameter)
- Flexible heavy truck 3” exhaust tubing (available almost in any muffler shop)
- Possibly 55mm rubber hose (in my case I couldn’t find one matching throttle body diameter (52mm)) but u can also use stock intake hose
- Clamps: 4-3.5” clamps (available in local hardware store)
- High temp paint (optional)
- Hack saw
- Sockets & Wrenches
Step 1
Remove the stock intake. Instructions located in this how-to
Step 2
Cut stock intake hose as shown on the picture. Heat the rubber using heat gun and work the tubing into it, put clamp over the edge of the rubber hose, as shown on the picture.
Note: you may use a 55mm rubber hose if you will find one to match throttle body diameter, if you will do so, don’t pay attention to any numbers in step three because the tubing must be longer in your case.
Step 3
Ok now, you will have to take the tubing and bend it the way you need. You may need a friend to hold it next to throttle body while you will bend it, leave as much space between tubing and exhaust manifold as possible, at least 1-2" Also remove the bracket holding stock air box, by removing 2 bolts holding it, but don’t throw it away you’ll need it later. This will give you some more room to work. The clearance between the road and the tubing must be approx 14”, my filter is 7" long so I have 7" clearance, if your filter is longer, make your pipe shorter. So take the ruler and measure approx 14" between ground and tubing, and mark it, don’t cut it too far, because you can always make it shorter but not longer ;) Cut it straight across.
Step 4
Work your new air filter on to the tubing, you may have to use heat gun to heat the rubber part on the filter and then slide it on the tubing, place the clamp on the edge of the rubber part of the filter and tighten it down.
Step 5
Then you’ll need some support for you tubing, take the bracket, which was supporting stock air box, and bend it so that it was parallel to the tubing as shown on the picture. I suggest heating it and then bent it using pliers, you may need a friend to hold the bracket.
Step 6
CAI is almost done just needs some more support, if you don’t want to loose it driving on the highway;) reinstall the bracket back and slide 2 clamps over it and the tubing. Now, time to go under the car, you will have to jack up at least the driver’s front part of the car or better the front end. Slide the clamp through the hole in the frame and around the tubing, as shown on the picture below. Also don’t forget to tighten the clamp on stock air intake hose on the throttle body.
Step 7
Check if all the clamps are tightened down again.
