- Brake caliper paint, or engine enamel in the color your your choosing. (Just make sure it can withstand high temps)
- Primer - I used Rustolium primer meant for rusty surfaces
- Masking Tape
- Wire Brush
- Simple Green cleaner
- News Paper
- Floor jack and jackstands
- Tire Iron
Step 1
Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels you are going to be removing. If you going to paint the calipers first, loosen both front wheels, if doing the drums, loosen the back.
Jack up either the front or back, depending on what you are painting. Place a jack stand under the car, then jack up the opposite side.
Finish removing both front, or both rear wheels. (You could just do one side at a time if you wish)
Step 2
For the calipers, you don't have to remove them from the vehicle. Get your newspaper and tape and mask off everything around the caliper. Make sure you mask off enough of the car that you don't get overspray on your nice paint.
For the drums, it is not too hard to remove them, so you might as well. You may need to hit them with a rubber mallet to break them loose. Once off, mask off the center section where the wheel bolts on
Step 3
Use the wire brush and Simple Green to remove as much of the surface rust as you can
Step 4
Step 5
After letting the primer dry for a few, spray on a few coats of your desired color. Multiple thin coats are better than a thick heavy coat that will run and drip
Step 6
After giving the paint ample time to dry (see instructions on can), remove your mask to check out the results
